April at Helmsley Meadows: A Month of Progress, Nature & New Beginnings

April has been a month full of momentum here at Helmsley Meadows. With longer days, warmer light, and the countryside coming back to life, there’s been a real sense that everything is beginning to take shape—both in the landscape and across the site.

Cabins in Place & Outdoor Spaces Taking Shape

With three of our bespoke cabins now in position, work has officially begun on shaping the spaces around them.

Each cabin is being carefully designed to help you slow down and fully connect with the surroundings. We’ve started installing paved areas for wood-fired hot tubs, alongside dedicated spots for stargazing loungers—perfect for those clear North Yorkshire nights where the sky feels endless.

To the front of each cabin, decking areas are also taking shape. These will become simple but special spaces—ideal for early morning cups of tea, wrapped in a blanket, watching the wildlife move quietly across the meadow as the day begins.

The Final Cabin Arriving Soon

There’s a real sense of anticipation as we wait for our fourth and final cabin, which is hopefully arriving next week.

Seeing the last piece of the puzzle come into place will be a big moment for us. From there, the focus will shift even more towards the finer details—those thoughtful touches that turn a stay into an experience.

Thoughtful Interiors Coming Together

Behind the scenes, we’ve also started bringing the interiors to life.

Sofas have been chosen with comfort and relaxation in mind, cushions are being carefully made, and we’re eagerly awaiting the arrival of some beautiful bespoke headboards that will add character and warmth to the bedrooms.

Every decision is being made with a clear intention—to create spaces that feel calm, considered, and quietly luxurious, while still staying connected to the natural surroundings outside.

Groundworks and Electricity Upgrade

On site, we’re preparing for the next phase. Once our upgraded electricity supply is installed at the end of the month, groundworks will resume as soon as conditions allow.

Building in the North York Moors means working with the seasons, not against them. While winter rain can slow progress, it ensures the land is respected and foundations are properly prepared.

Spring Arrives in the Woods

Out in the surrounding woodland, spring has truly arrived.

The wild garlic is beginning to flower, filling the air with that unmistakable fresh scent, while bluebells are starting to emerge in full force, creating that blue carpet of colour that makes this time of year so special.

It’s one of those seasonal moments that remindsd you of just how much there is to notice when you slow down.

Life Returning to the Fields

There has also been a welcome return of the cows in the neighbouring fields. it’s been a joy to watch the calves taking their first steps into the outside world. At the moment, they’re just next door, but once everything is complete, they’ll return to the meadows.

A Busy Month at the Cottage

While work continues on the meadow, the cottage has been quietly busy in the background.

This month, we’ve welcomed guests from as far afield as Florida and Texas. We even discovered that the Texans used to live down the road from us in Dallas! Knowing that people are travelling such distances to experience this corner of North Yorkshire is incredibly special.

Looking Ahead to May

As we move into May, there’s a growing sense that everything is coming together.

With the final cabin arriving, outdoor spaces developing, and interiors starting to take shape, Helmsley Meadows is edging closer to becoming the peaceful retreat we’ve always imagined.

If you’d like to follow along as things continue to unfold—or be one of the first to experience a stay here—you can keep an eye on updates or get in touch to find out more.

Because sometimes, all you really need… is a place to slow down and just be.
