Our first Helmsley Meadows Cabin has arrived — With an unexpected twist
After months of planning, designing, and preparing the site, our very first Helmsley Meadows glamping cabin has officially arrived in North Yorkshire. It’s a huge milestone for our new nature-focused retreat just outside Helmsley, and one we’ve been eagerly waiting to share.
But as every countryside project teaches you… nature likes to keep things interesting.
When a North Yorkshire meadow says “not today”
Like much of the region, we’ve had an extraordinary amount of rain this season. The meadows, which will eventually be home to our four bespoke glamping cabins, are currently far too soft for a delivery lorry and crane. After walking the site with the team, it became clear that attempting to move heavy machinery onto the field would end in both vehicles getting stuck.
So, instead of settling into its forever spot overlooking our peaceful Helmsley landscape, the cabin has taken up a temporary home next to the wood shed and vegetable garden — delivered safely in its two halves and carefully craned into position.
A slightly different location… but still an unforgettable moment
Even with the change of plan, watching the cabin arrive felt incredibly special. Seeing it lifted from the lorry, swung gently through the air, and placed down onto the holding area made the whole Helmsley Meadows glamping project feel suddenly very real.
The craftsmanship, the design details, the scale — everything we’ve been imagining is here at last.
Just… not quite in the right place yet!
What happens next?
Once the ground dries and the meadow is firm enough — likely in February — the cabin will be moved to its proper position on the site. From there, we can begin the next stage of the build, from decking to interiors to all the finishing touches that make a stay feel calm, cosy, and connected to nature.
We’ll be sharing more updates, and behind-the-scenes progress over the next few months as the cabins come together and Helmsley Meadows grows into the peaceful retreat we’ve envisioned.
