And this year, there’s even more reason to saddle up. The 2025 Women’s Tour of Britain is coming to our corner of the countryside, with the Stage one on June 5th passing through Kirkbymoorside, just a short ride from the cottage.

Darren is a keen cyclist, and if he’s not washing his bike, he’s out on the road chasing climbs and cake in equal measure. From the cottage, you can head in any direction and find routes worth riding – whether you’re after a gentle meander or a leg-burner with views.
Some of Darren’s favourite local rides include:
Helmsley to Rievaulx and back – a peaceful route past abbey ruins and through woodland
The Bransdale Loop – serious elevation, serious views
Kirkbymoorside coffee run – a fast loop with great mid-point snacks

We welcome cyclists here at the cottage – whether you’re training, touring, or just pottering. We’ve got secure bike storage in our stables, a hose for muddy tyres, and space to dry your kit after a long day in the saddle.
