From Railway Roots to Award-Winning Retreat: Our Feature in Yorkshire Life

 

When we first stepped into the old railway cottage, we knew it had potential. A peaceful setting, and a story steeped in Yorkshire’s past—it had all the makings of something special. What we didn’t expect was for that little cottage to go on to win design awards, feature in Yorkshire Life magazine, and be shortlisted for an international interior design prize. 

We’re delighted to share that our lovingly restored cottage has been given a beautiful 5-page feature in the August issue of Yorkshire Life magazine, as part of their Dream Home series. 

 

The article celebrates the incredible work of interior designer Isobel Star, who transformed the space into a cosy, character-filled retreat that honours the cottage’s heritage while offering modern-day comfort. 

 

Every room was designed with purpose—from soft, layered textures in the bedroom to the calm, inviting tones in the living space. It’s a place where time slows down, and you can truly switch off.

Earlier this year, the cottage was named Best Heritage Holiday Cottage Interior Design 2025, and we’re proud to say it’s now shortlisted for the prestigious SBID International Design Awards—a recognition that celebrates global excellence in interior design. 

 

Isobel’s vision, combined with a deep respect for the cottage’s roots, created something quietly magical—and the design world has taken notice. 

 

 

For us, this has always been about more than just design. We wanted to create a place where couples (and their dog!) could retreat from the noise of everyday life. A place with stories in its stonework and comfort in every corner. Somewhere to light the fire, open a book, and let time soften around the edges. 

 

We’re thrilled that others see what we feel every time we walk through the door.
